Fire Prevention
Children and Fire Safety
Mount Oliver has no schools in our immediate response area, however, we do visit our neighboring City Schools such as the Head Start program in Knoxville, Phillip Murray and Arlington Elentary Schools. We realize that our borough children attend some of these schools and enjoy every minute we get with these visits. During our visits, children are taught the Stop, Drop and Roll manuever and the Stay Low and Go method of exiting when a fire is active. The children also learn some things about the 911 system and how fires originate. We even pass out homework to the parents, who are asked to check their smoke detectors that evening, just to be sure that they are working. Check your batteries once a week and change them when you change your clocks!
Test your Detectors!

Did you know?
About 1,000 people are killed each year from home fire caused by smoking materials.
People close to where a smoking material fire starts are harder to save, because fires spread quickly.
Most fires caused by smoking materials start on beds, furniture or in the trash.
34% of the deaths caused by smoking material fires were children, 25% were neighbors or friends of the smoker.
One in four people killed in home fires is not the smoker whose cigarette caused the fire.
